What Is a Remap, and What Is a Tuning Box/Chip?

A remap, also known as a 'tune,' involves modifying your car's ECU (Engine Control Unit). This process alters the parameters of both fuel and boost at various points to enhance power and/or fuel economy.

Our diesel tuning box achieves similar results by making adjustments to the fuel and boost systems. However, instead of modifying the car's ECU software, our unit connects directly to the existing wiring looms. This allows the tuning box to modify the signals from the ECU in real-time, ensuring that when the tuning box is removed, your car returns to its original settings.

Which Is Better?

Customers often ask whether they should choose a tuning box or a remap. We aim to provide you with unbiased information so you can make an informed decision.

The key point to understand is that not all diesel tuning boxes are created equal, and the same applies to remaps. The best option for you depends entirely on your specific needs.

Both high-quality diesel tuning boxes and remaps can deliver excellent results, such as increased power and torque, reduced turbo lag, and improved fuel economy (MPG).

Unfortunately, many companies offer low-quality remaps, and even more provide subpar diesel tuning boxes. These inferior products can lead to poor performance and potential damage to your vehicle.

We stand behind the quality of our products, offering a 2-year warranty on all items.

Remaps
  • Must be carried out in an area local to the remapper. Not only does this mean that it’s often a long drive to have the work carried out, it also means another lengthy drive if problems occur. I.e. if the manufacturer flashes the ECU during servicing it would be lost.
  • Remaps are a permanent install. They cannot be removed when selling the vehicle or if you wish to have your vehicle serviced by the manufacturer. Once installed there is no adjustment or any way of switching it off.
  • Remaps will, as with all modifications, void warranty. They cannot be hidden in the software as claimed by some.
  • The safety parameters of the ECU are removed. They control fuel pressure and injection timing this means that they must run vey high boost pressures to keep the AFR (air fuel ratio) correct.
  • Often come with DPF or EGR delete’s. This maybe legal for off road use but may land you a sizable fine on highway use. Not only that your car insurance will be void as you have tampered with emission control.

  • Tuning boxes, as with all modifications, can and will void warranty. It can be removed before servicing by the manufacturer so to keep your warranty intact. Undetectable when removed.
  • Our tuning boxes don’t raise and parameters above the recommended maximums by any manufacturer. Because we control both fuel and air it means we can keep your AFR’s correct in turn looking after your all-important EGT’s.
  • As we keep the AFR’s correct it means we are DPF compatible. You should notify your insurance company of the install.
